NOW is the time to attack the 1st year thistles
Get out there with your hoe and attack! Don't let them go to the terrible two-year-old stage, when they grow a stem with multiple blossoms, bloom and then BOOM! spread seeds.

A smile for the day
While reading the SouthWest Writers Storyteller's Anthology (2013
edition) I came upon this poem. Now IF any of you took the leap this
past year from Windows 7 to the FREE Windows 10 - I think you can relate
to this poem.
CRASH by Peggy Spencer
Poor Wally's computer has gone on the blink,
He tried to upgrade it but what do you think,
The hard drive went wacko, the files disappeared,
His screen sent out sparks and the keyboard got weird.
Whenever he typed he got music, no joke,
His computer was fine, but now it's baroque.

the BLOG has a mind of its own.
Don't ask me WHY you just got a post about Flu shots dated Oct 2015. These blogs do that to me sometimes. Just out of the blue it sends an old one that failed to send on its appropriate publish date. Sorry.
Reminds me of THE BLOB that Tom Bird (the weather forecaster at last Tuesday WUI Speaker Series) said sits out there above El Nino and changes everything. That's why we just had very dry February and March, even in an El Nino year. It is the BLOB's fault.
So in the case of weird blog posts -- its the BLOG's fault! Just keep a sense of humor -- and smile!

Boating allowed at Alto Lake
Boating allowed at Alto Lake
Dianne L Stallings, Ruidoso News 5:29 p.m. MDT March 24, 2016
Alto Lake is added to Ruidoso's ordinance to allow boating as well as fishing, giving more recreational water-related options for residents and visitors
"Village staff was successful in July 2015 to secure stocking of fish into Alto Lake by the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish," Village Parks and Recreation Director Rodney Griego said. "The Parks and Recreation Commission has completed an evaluation of facilities and services, which recommended the addition of boating to Alto Lake. Staff reviewed the request with fire, police and code enforcement departments and has received nothing but positive feedback."
Councilor John Cornelius noticed that the rules at Grindstone being applied to Alto as a lake added to the ordinance state that persons under the age of 18 years must have authorization of a guardian to operate a boat. He questioned if the wording should be "supervision," instead of "authorization."
"Otherwise, someone could send a kid out there by himself and I don't think that's the intent," Cornelius said.
Griego said New Nexico boating law does not specify age for a person operating a boat and he used the language in the existing ordinance. No incidences have occurred and when village sponsored events are conducted, an adult operates all boats, he said. He had no objection to a wording change, however.
Councilor Rafael Salas advocated allowing dogs to swim at Alto Lake and at Grindstone, but in the final vote, the prohibition was not changed. Councilor Joe Eby said if he was fishing, he would not want people and dogs swimming around when he cast with a hook at the end of his line.
Councilor Lynn Crawford said liability concerns could be involved in the ban and Salas said if a designated human swimming area was created, lifeguards would have to be hired.
Councilor Joe Gomez said the village law requiring dogs to be on leash or under voice control essentially eliminates the possibility of allowing them to swim. Dogs in the past have been spotted swimming at Alto, which is not as large and deep as Grindstone, and most likely that practice will continue with or without posted signs, councilors said.
Otero County Electric Coop cuts trees consider dangerous to power lines
AND, they just happened to be an impinging threat to Sun Valley Water's well house #6. So just remember, if you see dead trees that could take out an electric line if the trees fell down in a strong wind CALL OCEC Alto's office at 575-336-4550. Call even if they are not on your property. The trees in the photo were on the adjacent property.

At the Old Mill on Saturday, April 9
Hey - there's our neighbor sitting and strumming the guitar in the front. Tim McCasland. He took Randy Jones' place with the Flying J Wrangles as the string instrument extraordinaire virtuoso. He plays everything. Well, maybe not the fiddle, but by golly, for sure everything else with strings.
