Be FIREWISE. Fire and wind are a destructive and deadly combination which is why there are NO BURN warning in Lincoln COunty

Clean pine needles and oak leaves from near your house and woodpile. Trim up the ladder fuel branches on your trees.  Mow long grass & weeds.  Store wood away from your home.  Be sure your equipment has spark arrestors.  Don't weld outside.   We don't want this in the neighborhood.

2 houses in Carrizozo burned last week.  Started from a man burning boxes

Free fire assessment of your property. Contact Frank Silva of State Forestry at 575. 354.2231 to make appointment for the State Forester and Rural Community Forester, Rick Merrick, to come to your property.

Rainfall report. Or - should we call it -- LACK of rainfall report.

Get out there and do a rain dance, people.  We need it!  Guess the wind is just blowing it all away - the rain, that is.

Another message from Jim Miller, Chairman of the Board, Sun Valley Water & Sanitation District:

The Sun Valley District seems to be having an increase in the number of water leaks and leak amounts, some in excess of 40,000 gallons per month!

Below is a leak list from a recent publication.
SIX Most Common Leaks (ranked by frequency)
  1. Bathroom faucets, toilets/toilet flappers
  2. Kitchen faucets and below the sink shut-offs
  3. Dishwasher leaks where water pools under the washer
  4. Washing machine faucets and cracked hoses
  5. Hot water heater connections
  6. Outdoor faucets, brittle gaskets. In this climate should be replaced with frost-free faucets
Please check your home. Let us know if we can be of help in identifying leaks. Thanks

Message from Jim Miller, Chairman of the Board, Sun Valley Water & Sanitation District

GreenTree Solid Waste slash pickup is this week in Sun Valley, Little Creek and La Junta subdivisions.
Your slash needs to be approximately 4 feet from the edge of the street on your property, not someone else’s property.
